Hello! We would like to feature you and your style expertise in a new video series coming soon to ModCloth. To participate all you need to do is send us a video of you answering the questions below on camera.
This month’s topic:
Share your thoughts on bicycle style!
What is one of your favorite pieces of bike style advice?
What is one question you have about bike style?
Share your thoughts with us however you might like! Webcam, phone, super-pro high tech video camera or whatever you have! If you are looking for some tips, this handy guide will help you make an awesome video.
Find a well-lit area. If you can record while facing a window, that is ideal.
Set up in a quiet area, away from any distracting background noises.
For best audio quality, talk as close as possible to your mic/camera.
Your webcam should be at eye level. Place a few books under your computer to raise it, if needed.
If you are recording on a phone or another camera and don’t have a tripod, have a friend help and remember to record in landscape orientation.
Make sure the background is clear of anything you wouldn’t want others to see.
Send us your personal essays, flash fiction, and short poetry that explore how fashion and style influences and affects our lives for publication on our blog, Story. Not only are we interested in work that directly deals with clothing, shoes, and accessories, but we also encourage various explorations and interpretations of the larger topic of “style.” Don’t be afraid to show us what you’ve got!
Currently, we are in need of personal essays most, but we will consider any genre you send our way. For specific genre guidelines, please refer to their respective sections below. Please read our archive and our latest posts to get a sense of what we're seeking.
We publish roughly one piece per month, and each piece is accompanied by a unique illustration. With many of our own professional copywriters being independent creative writers and literature lovers, it’s important to us to give lots of love to our contributors.
Your work must not be previously published.
If you are submitting your work elsewhere, please tell us, and let us know as soon as possible if it has been accepted elsewhere.
You may submit only once in each genre; 1 fiction piece, 1 nonfiction piece, or up to 3 poems.
Print submissions will not be considered.
Response time will vary depending on the volume of submissions received.
We are not offering payment at this time, but we do offer a wide range of readership, good exposure, and mad props!
Along with your submission, please submit a brief cover letter containing:
Your submission’s genre
Your submission’s word count if prose and line count if poetry
A brief bio
All submissions should adhere to the guidelines below according to their genre.
We especially want personal essays and nonfiction that reads like fiction, grabs our attention, and teaches us something. Feel free to send an excerpt of a larger work if you believe that it can stand on its own. Please no criticism or book reviews. We ask that you double space your submissions and keep them under 1,500 words.
Send us your well-crafted and innovative, style-inspired flash fiction. Feel free to send an excerpt of a larger work if you believe that it can stand on its own. Please double space your submissions and keep them under 1,500 words.
We want poetry that integrates the topics of personal style and fashion in innovative ways. Because of our blog platform, we encourage poems that are no longer than about 40 lines and with a more traditional form. While we appreciate experimental forms and approaches to poetry, we want to make sure our platform doesn’t compromise the work.
